Ms. Vu Thi Quynh Hoa - National Director of Oxfam in Vietnam, hopes that the project will not only support businesses to practice EU standards but also promote multi-party connectivity to improve industry capacity and promote Vietnamese agricultural products
This morning, May 6, 2022, the project "Enhancing the Export Competitiveness of Vietnamese Small and Medium Enterprises in Spice, Fruit and Vegetable Sub-Sectors" (SFV-Export) was officially launched with the participation of more than 150 delegates, including representatives of the European Union delegation to Vietnam, state agencies and businesses.
The Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the European Union (EVFTA) has accelerated export opportunities for Vietnamese agricultural products as import taxes are abolished for most items, creating an outstanding advantage in terms of trade price. Despite the great opportunity, the Vietnamese spice and vegetable industry currently accounts for less than 1% of the total value of Europe's imports of these items.
The SFV-Export project will:
- provide intensive technical support to help businesses comply with European recognized food safety standards such as IFS, BRC, and Fairtrade certification;
- support marketing activities, develop markets, provide market information and connect businesses with European partners;
- promote trade on specialized digital platforms;
- support to improve policies and good practices related to workers, gender equality, and environmental protection;
- promote multi-party cooperation to improve industry capacity and promote Vietnamese agricultural products to the European market.
The project will accompany businesses to create reputable brands when exporting vegetables and spices to the EU market.
