On March 30th, the Nghe An Child Protection Fund hosted a meaningful event in anticipation of World Autism Awareness Day (April 2nd), themed "Understanding and Spreading Love." The event aims to enlighten the community about autism, inspire early interventions, and dismantle the barriers of prejudice and misunderstanding that often isolate those with autism.
Over 200 participants, including students, parents, and educators from the Nghe An Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, came together in a show of solidarity and support. They explored the vibrant and diverse world of autistic individuals through an array of arts, crafts, and interactive games, each activity revealing the unique perspectives and talents of these children. This gathering proved to be a powerful counter-narrative to common misconceptions, highlighting the autistic community's strengths and the collective effort needed for their inclusion.

In Nghe An, the challenge is significant, with around 8,700 children with autism, but only 1,300 receiving the specialized care they need. The Promoting the Rights of Children, Ensuring Access to Support, Health Care, and Education for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders in Nghệ An initiative aims to change this by advocating for the rights of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders through practical and equitable policies.
Within a year, the initiative has made strides, educating over 900 parents about autism and providing legal guidance to 300 families, ensuring they have access to essential services. Through communication activities and direct consultation, the project is creating a supportive ecosystem where the rights to healthcare, social welfare, and education for children with autism are not only recognized but actively upheld.
This initiative is supported by the Justice Initiatives Facilitation Fund (JIFF), managed by Oxfam in Vietnam. It is part of the larger "Strengthening Legal and Judicial Partnership in Vietnam" (EU JULE) project funded by the European Union, aiming to enhance the rule of law in Vietnam through a more accessible and reliable justice system.
