Training strengthens capacity for safer and more sustainable tea production

From June to August 2026, more than 300 tea producers and processors, 70% women, participated in training activities delivered under the “Promote a sustainable, gender responsive and climate-resilient tea value chain in Thai Nguyen province” in Binh Thanh and La Bang communes, Thai Nguyen Province. The participants are members of local cooperatives and producer groups. 

The training covered both cooperative management and tea production. Cooperative members strengthened their skills in governance, business and production planning, market analysis, and resource management, while learning about Vietnam’s Law on Cooperatives and practical approaches such as Kaizen, 5S, and digital and green transformation.

Farmers from eight hamlets across La Bang and Binh Thanh communes also received technical guidance on safe and sustainable tea production, including the 2026 VietGAP standards, planting material management, responsible pesticide use, balanced fertilizer application, and biological alternatives to chemical inputs. The training aimed to improve tea quality and value, use resources more efficiently, and protect the environment and community health. 

Together, these activities are helping build more efficient, responsible, and market-oriented tea production in the two communes. 

Ly Ngoc Huyen, a tea producer in La Bang, shared: “Carrying on my family’s tradition of tea-growing and processing, I’ve learned that tea quality depends not only on the climate and water supply, but also on how we care for and harvest the plants. I hope experts can provide more hands-on guidance tailored to different growing conditions, especially on irrigation, fertilizer use, and caring for tea plants during extreme weather”.
