On June 2nd, a demonstration showcasing the utilization of biomass gasification technology (VCBG) for the initial processing of agricultural products took place in Vinh Yen commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province. This event drew the participation of nearly 60 representatives from various levels of state agencies, journalism and press organizations, as well as local residents.
The goal of this series of activities is to introduce and promote the implementation of biomass gasification technology in agricultural product processing, helping farmers understand the benefits of technology in sustainable production to ensure profits and protect the environment. This activity attracted a large number of people's interest in the area.
Following a direct observation of the operation of VCBG technology in drying agricultural products, notably rice, the demonstration received a lot of interest and questions regarding its operation and related aspects. People expressed a keen interest in learning about the cost, use, and required materials. The versatility of technology is highly appreciated when it can be applied to most heat-intensive activities in daily life: from drying agricultural products such as rice, corn, cinnamon, cassava, pineapple, medicinal herbs to providing heat for livestock and poultry, among others.

Most importantly, the technology helps users save significantly on fuel and labor time, yet produces higher quality and more uniform products. The advantage of not generating smoke during operation also protects farmers' health and the surrounding environment.
Mr. Hoang Van Dien, vice chairman of Vinh Yen commune (Bao Yen district, Lao Cai) shared that this is a very suitable model for the locality, and allows people to take advantage of the abundant agricultural waste as fuel. It is also compact, saves time, and produces higher quality products and prices than compared to using traditional wood stoves. He also pledged that the local authority will actively promote the model, and simultaneously propose to all levels to come up with support packages to bring this technology closer to people.
The demonstration of biomass gasification technology was conducted by the Center for Creativity and Sustainability Study and Consultancy (CCS) in cooperation with Oxfam, at Vinh Yen Agricultural and Service Cooperative, Vinh Yen commune, Bao district Yen, Lao Cai province, under the project "Biomass Gasification Technology - Sustainable Energy Solutions for Agricultural Product Processing and Waste Management in Rural Vietnam" (BEST). The project is funded by the European Union, implemented by Oxfam in Vietnam and CCS in the northern mountainous provinces.
