Within the framework of the National Program on Economical and Efficient Energy Use spanning the period from 2019 to 2030, the Ministry of Industry and Trade organized a nationwide Launching Ceremony and Race on March 16th, 2024, aimed at promoting electricity conservation and participating in the Earth Hour 2024 campaign, hosted at Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi.
During the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan underscored the imperative message of "Save Electricity - Make it a Habit." The overarching goal is to encourage the participation of all individuals, communities, and businesses across the nation in environmental protection efforts, emphasizing energy and electricity conservation. This endeavor aligns with Vietnam's commitment, as expressed at the 26th Conference of Parties regarding the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), and reaffirmed during COP28, aiming for a net zero emission target by 2050.
Ms. Kristina Bünde, Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation, emphasized the significance of energy conservation, stating that "saving energy is the simplest method to conserve finances and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Indeed, energy preservation through efficiency measures and the utilization of local energy sources stands as a primary means to bolster a country's energy independence, thereby enhancing resilience against external shocks or political pressures."
The Launching Ceremony and Race, carrying the resonating message of "Save Electricity - Make it a Habit," witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 1,500 individuals. Oxfam in Vietnam is honored to accompany and support this noteworthy event.
