On January 16, the Women's and Lawyers Association in Lac Thinh commune, Hoa Binh province, facilitated an educational session on the Law on Cyber Security and the Law on Marriage and Family, engaging over 100 local participants. The innovative integration of skits, quizzes, and performances made complex legal concepts accessible and engaging to the community.
This initiative was sparked by the increasing prevalence of online scams, particularly on social networks, which have become ubiquitous platforms for communication, sales, and networking among the locals. The targeted education on the Law on Cyber Security is designed to empower citizens, notably ethnic minority women, to navigate the digital landscape with confidence and safeguard themselves against the vulnerabilities exposed by the digital age.
“Before, I just went online without thinking that there were any laws related. Through these sessions, I better understand how to protect myself on social media, and know how to filter real and fake news," shared Ms. Quach Thi Kieu, a resident of Lac Thinh commune.

The Women's Union of Hoa Binh province, in collaboration with legal experts and law enforcement officials, utilized public performances to demystify legal protections in an engaging manner. The dramatizations featured familiar individuals from state agencies, enhancing the relatability and credibility of the message.
Complementing these educational efforts, the Women's Union also launched complimentary legal consultation services, the "Equality in Marriage" initiative, and the "Women's Club for Social Media Integration." These programs, which include both women and men as core members, aim to foster local change and promote gender equality within families and the broader community, as highlighted by Ms. Hoang Thi Duyen, chairwoman of the Women's Union of Hoa Binh province.
This endeavor is part of the broader "Empowering Women through Access to Cyber Security Law and the Law on Marriage and Family" initiative, spearheaded by the Women's Union of Hoa Binh province. Supported by funding from the European Union under the framework of the Justice Initiative Facilitation Fund (JIFF), which is managed by Oxfam in Vietnam, this initiative exemplifies a committed effort to enhance legal literacy and empowerment among women in the digital era.
